Do we need to shutdown equipment?
Do covers need to be removed?
Yes. It is most common for onsite personnel to remove the covers before the inspection. Infrared imagers cannot see trough covers or enclosures.
No. Inspected equipmemt should be operating under normal load. Most electrical equipment has a service interlock that allows access without interrupting service.
How often do I need to inspect?
Electrical Systems should be inspected at least once a year.
Mechanical Systems should be checked frequently to establish comprehensive trending data.
